Emma Hayes recently completed an impressive 12-year career at Chelsea by leading the team to its seventh Women’s Super League title. Following this accomplishment, she has been hired as the head coach of the United States women’s national team, a position she has long dreamed of. Hayes expressed her eagerness to take on this challenge and commit fully to her new role in preparation for the upcoming Paris Olympics. Despite the lack of time for a vacation, Hayes is excited to begin working to restore the USWNT to its winning ways.

Hayes’ journey to becoming the head coach of the USWNT has been marked by hard work and determination. Starting her coaching career in the United States, Hayes worked her way up through various levels of the sport. With her experience coaching at Chelsea and in the U.S., Hayes is prepared to lead the national team to success. She is committed to upholding the traditions of the team and bringing her winning mentality to the international level. Hayes has been recognized for her achievements in football with honors from the Queen of the United Kingdom.

The USWNT has been in need of change following their early exit in the 2021 FIFA World Cup and the lack of a gold medal at the Olympics since 2012. Hayes acknowledges the challenges ahead and is focused on preparing the team to perform at their best level. She has named a 23-player roster for upcoming friendlies and is working on finalizing the Olympic roster. Hayes is detail-oriented and process-driven, with a structured plan in place for the upcoming months. She is focused on building trust with the players and creating a family environment within the team.

Hayes will be leading the USWNT in her first matches on the sideline in friendly matches against Korea Republic in June. She has assembled a staff that includes members from her Chelsea team and is prepared to meet with the players and begin the process of getting to know them on a personal level. Hayes values the history and advocacy of the USWNT players and aims to maintain those qualities while also focusing on what will help the team win. She is dedicated to ensuring that the team is prepared and united in their goal of success on the international stage.

The Hayes era for the USWNT has officially begun, with Hayes fully committed to the role of head coach and excited to lead the team towards future success. Despite the quick turnaround and the challenges ahead, Hayes is prepared and focused on the task at hand. She brings a wealth of experience and a winning mentality to the team, along with a commitment to upholding the traditions and values of the program. With a structured plan in place and a dedicated staff behind her, Hayes is ready to guide the USWNT to new heights on the global stage.
