In a thrilling College Football Playoff matchup, the Texas Longhorns pulled off a dramatic comeback victory against the Arizona State Sun Devils in the Peach Bowl quarterfinal. Quinn Ewers delivered a clutch throw to Matthew Golden for a crucial touchdown to force a second overtime, where Andrew Mukuba sealed the win with an interception. Despite squandering a 16-point lead in the fourth quarter and missing potential game-winning field goals in regulation, the Longhorns showed resilience and determination to secure a 39-31 victory.

Arizona State, a two-touchdown underdog, put up a valiant effort and took the lead in overtime with a touchdown by Cam Skattebo. However, Ewers’ connection with Golden for the tying score shifted the momentum back in favor of the Longhorns. Ewers followed up with another touchdown pass to Gunnar Helm and a 2-point conversion, setting the stage for Mukuba’s game-winning interception. The Sun Devils fought until the end, but Texas ultimately emerged victorious in this thrilling playoff matchup.

The game was a back-and-forth battle, with both teams showcasing their resilience and determination. Arizona State’s Skattebo played a key role in the Sun Devils’ comeback efforts, displaying his versatility with a touchdown pass, a receiving touchdown, and a rushing touchdown in the game. Despite their efforts, the missed opportunities and defensive stops by Texas proved to be decisive in the outcome of the game.

The victory sends the Longhorns back to their home state for a Cotton Bowl semifinal against Ohio State, setting up a highly anticipated matchup between two powerhouse programs. After a series of lopsided results in the playoff, this thrilling game provided the excitement and drama that fans had been hoping for. Texas will look to build on their momentum and continue their quest for a national championship, while Arizona State will reflect on a successful season that exceeded expectations.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian praised his team’s resiliency and ability to perform under pressure, highlighting the pride he felt in their performance. Despite facing challenges and setbacks throughout the game, the Longhorns showed their ability to rise to the occasion when it mattered most. Both teams displayed incredible determination and grit in a game that will be remembered as a classic playoff showdown.

Looking ahead, Texas will face Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl, renewing a rivalry that dates back to the 2009 Fiesta Bowl. The Longhorns have a 2-1 lead in the series and will aim to continue their playoff run against the Buckeyes. Meanwhile, Arizona State will build on their success and look to maintain their momentum in the upcoming season, with the hope of solidifying their place among the nation’s elite programs.
