The Montgomery County, Texas Judge described the incident as intentional, indicating that the suspect may have returned to the scene with the intent to harm after being denied a commercial driver’s license the previous day. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office also stated that they believed the crash was a deliberate criminal act.

As the investigation continued, it was confirmed that multiple serious injuries resulted from the crash, but the exact number of injured individuals remained unknown.
