Texas Attorney General says Biden administration was ‘illegally subverting’ laws by selling border wall materials, court orders halt.

The Biden administration has agreed to a court order preventing the disposal of any further border wall materials over the next 30 days, allowing President-elect Trump to use those materials for future border wall construction. The administration had been auctioning off border wall parts since at least 2023, with the parts listed for sale on various online auction marketplaces. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton stated that the administration has been blocked from disposing of these materials until Trump takes office, and that they will hold the administration accountable for any attempts to subvert border security measures.

Texas intends to support the incoming administration in building the wall at the southern border once Trump takes office. Border wall construction was abruptly halted in January 2021 after 450 miles had been built during the first Trump administration. While some view the wall as a critical tool in combating illegal immigration, others argue that the project is xenophobic and ineffective. The auctioning off of border wall parts in 2023 has been ongoing, with officials in Arizona stating that auctions have been happening weekly. There was controversy surrounding the sale of these materials as they could potentially be used in future border wall construction.

President Trump called out the Biden administration’s efforts in selling the unused border wall materials, labeling it as “almost a criminal act.” Trump voiced concerns that taxpayers would end up paying hundreds of millions of dollars to repurchase the steel bollards and concrete if the materials were sold off. He urged President Biden to stop the sales of the materials and suggested that his team may obtain a restraining order to prevent further disposals. Trump emphasized the cost implications of having to rebuild the wall if the materials are not available in the future.

The auctioning off of border wall parts began in 2023 with excess material listed for sale online. The Defense Department’s logistics agency confirmed that the excess material was provided by the Army Corps of Engineers and was now available for sale. Trump’s criticism of the sales and his push to halt the disposal of materials highlight the ongoing debate surrounding the construction of the border wall and the administration’s handling of border security. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton emphasized holding the Biden administration accountable for its actions related to border security measures until the end of their term.

As President-elect Trump prepares to take office, the issue of border wall construction and the availability of materials for future projects has taken center stage. Texas and other supporters of the wall plan to assist the incoming administration in building the wall at the southern border. The actions of the Biden administration with regards to disposing of border wall materials have sparked controversy and drawn criticism from Trump and his allies. The debate over border security measures continues to be a divisive issue, with conflicting views on the effectiveness and necessity of a border wall in combatting illegal immigration.
