Taylor Swift has once again proven her dominance in the music industry by debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department. This achievement marks the largest start of the singer’s career and the second-largest of all time since the Billboard 200 began using equivalent units instead of just sales. The album opened with an impressive 2.61 million equivalent units shifted, a feat that has only been surpassed once before in U.S. history.

In 2015, Adele’s album 25 also made waves by launching at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 3.48 million equivalent units shifted, mainly from pure sales. Swift’s first-week sum for The Tortured Poets Department is made up more evenly between sales and streaming equivalents, with the album racking up a staggering 891.34 million plays of its 31 tracks. This translates to 683,000 equivalent streaming albums, showcasing Swift’s immense popularity across various platforms.

Not only did The Tortured Poets Department perform well in terms of streaming, but it also saw impressive sales numbers. The album sold 1.914 million copies in its first full tracking week in the U.S., further solidifying Swift’s status as a top-selling artist. Additionally, the global sales figures for the album were even higher, demonstrating the widespread appeal and impact of Swift’s music worldwide.

This remarkable achievement marks Swift’s fourteenth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart, showcasing her continued success and longevity in the music industry. The singer has managed to maintain her relevance and popularity over the years, consistently delivering chart-topping albums that resonate with audiences. From Fearless to 1989, Swift has established herself as a powerhouse in the music world, with each new release eagerly anticipated by fans and critics alike.

The Tortured Poets Department’s debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 cements Swift’s status as one of the top artists of her generation and solidifies her position as a chart-topping queen. With a career spanning nearly two decades and more than a dozen No. 1 albums, Swift shows no signs of slowing down. Her ability to connect with audiences through her music and storytelling continues to set her apart in the music industry, making her a force to be reckoned with and a true icon in the world of pop music.

Overall, Taylor Swift’s latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, has proven to be a major success, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with record-breaking numbers.
