There are strange laws present in states across the country, including in Washington and Minnesota. Washington’s strange laws include prohibitions on using x-ray machines for nonmedical foot measuring, hugging while driving, and harming carrier or racer pigeons. The use of lasers for intimidation is also illegal in the state. Minnesota has laws that penalize driving a filthy car and has other unique laws that may surprise you. Washington also has a law specifically targeting those who attempt to intimidate others with lasers, known as the unlawful discharge of a laser in the first degree.

In Washington, it is against the law to use x-ray machines for the purpose of nonmedical foot measuring according to Section 70A.388.190 of the Revised Washington Code. Hugging while driving is explicitly prohibited under Section 46.61.665 of the Revised Code of Washington. Harming carrier or racer pigeons is considered a Class 1 civil infraction in the state. The illegal discharge of a laser in a threatening manner is also a punishable offense in Washington. The state also has a law protecting Bigfoot, with certain counties having specific ordinances to protect the creature.

Minnesota has some strange laws as well, including penalties for driving a filthy car. Other bizarre laws across America include prohibitions on buying silverware on Sundays in South Carolina. The law prohibiting the use of x-ray machines for nonmedical foot measuring in Washington does not apply to licensed physicians, surgeons, podiatrists, or other healthcare professionals. The law against hugging while driving in Washington is intended to prevent distractions on the road and is considered evidence of reckless driving if violated.

The law in Washington that protects carrier or racer pigeons specifies that only the owner or authorized agent may harm them. Illegal discharge of a laser in the first degree in Washington can result in serious consequences if a laser is pointed at certain individuals. The law protecting Bigfoot in Skamania County has been in place since 1969 and has since been amended. In 2024, the Stevens County Sheriff’s Office received a call inquiring about the legality of hunting Sasquatch, to which they responded with humor and clarified that there are no Sasquatch in their county.

Overall, strange laws exist across the United States, with Washington and Minnesota having their unique sets of laws that may surprise or amuse people. From prohibitions on specific actions while driving to protection laws for certain animals and creatures, these laws demonstrate the various ways in which states regulate behavior. It is essential to be aware of local laws and regulations to avoid unintended consequences and legal issues.
