Stellantis, the automaker behind brands such as Chrysler, Dodge, Ram, and Jeep, has recalled over 1 million vehicles in the U.S. due to a software issue that may prevent rear-view cameras from displaying. This recall impacts 19 models manufactured between 2021 and 2023, including vehicles such as the Chrysler Pacifica, Dodge Durango, and various Ram and Jeep models. An over-the-air update has already been issued to more than 735,000 vehicles, with the company urging customers to follow recall notice instructions.
The issue behind the recall is related to radio software that potentially prevents a signal from allowing the rear-view camera to display, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Stellantis began investigating the problem last October and reviewed warranty data, field records, and customer assistance records through February. So far, there have been no reported injuries or accidents related to the recall, but the company is taking precautionary measures to ensure the safety of its customers.
This recall is just one of several that Stellantis has issued this year, with a total of 30 recalls affecting over 2.2 million vehicles from Chrysler alone. This marks the second large-scale recall in June, following a previous recall of more than 211,000 cars for disabled electronic stability control systems. The company has been proactive in addressing safety issues with its vehicles, including recalls for loss of control problems and other safety concerns.
In addition to Stellantis, other automakers have also been facing recalls related to various issues. Kia recently recalled over 462,000 SUVs for faulty seat motors that may pose a fire hazard.
