The Police Village at Piazza del Popolo recently hosted a three-day event filled with meetings, debates, conferences, and continuous interaction with citizens, students, and tourists who visited this beautiful corner of Rome. The morning featured a demonstration by the Nettuno K-9 group led by Piero Tavolaro, who bid farewell to his 40-year career in the police force alongside his colleagues and the dogs he worked with for 10 years. The group put on a show for the audience seated on the bleachers and lined up around the event perimeter, showcasing skills such as explosives detection and safe detonation.

The police force’s motto is #alwaysthere, especially when it comes to the elderly. Dr. Francesca Picierno explained to Rainews.it the most common scams targeting the elderly, what to watch out for, and the hotline number to call for help and assistance. Another important moment at the event was a discussion on legality with schools, not only in Rome but also with schools such as San Sebastiano al Vesuvio. The students were accompanied by parish priest Don Enzo Cozzolino, who highlighted the importance of cooperation between law enforcement, the church, and schools to guide young people away from illegal activities. He emphasized that “youth need someone to listen to them.” Additionally, sports play a role in promoting legality, with youth centers like Fiamme Oro often located in challenging areas, as explained by Dr. Carmen Pedrone using examples from Marcianise and San Basilio.

As the sun set, the event concluded with a grand performance by the Mounted Band. The event showcased the importance of community engagement and collaboration between different institutions in promoting a culture of legality and providing support for young people. The various activities and discussions aimed to educate and empower citizens, particularly the youth, to make informed decisions, stay away from criminal activities, and contribute positively to society. Overall, the Police Village event served as a platform for fostering dialogue, raising awareness, and building stronger relationships between law enforcement, citizens, schools, and other stakeholders. The event highlighted the commitment of the police force to serve and protect the community, while also emphasizing the importance of community involvement in creating a safer and more inclusive society.
