According to a statement from the Ankara Police Department, tomorrow, in honor of “Car-Free City Day,” certain roads will be closed to vehicle traffic from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. This includes the section of Iran Avenue between Binnaz Street and Bugday Street, as well as all streets and avenues connected to this area, which will be closed to two-way traffic. Additionally, the section of Tunalı Hilmi Avenue between Bugday Street and John F. Kennedy Avenue, as well as all streets and avenues connected to this area, will also have no two-way vehicle passage.

The “Car-Free City Day” event aims to promote alternative transportation methods and raise awareness about the environmental impact of car usage. By closing certain roads to vehicle traffic, the organizers hope to encourage people to use public transportation, bicycles, or walk, instead of driving their cars. This initiative is part of a larger effort to reduce air pollution, traffic congestion, and promote a healthier lifestyle among city residents.

Residents and visitors are urged to plan their travel routes accordingly and to use alternative transportation methods during the hours when the roads are closed to vehicles. The Ankara Police Department will be monitoring the area to ensure compliance with the road closures and to assist with any traffic-related issues that may arise. The organizers of the event have also arranged for additional public transportation options to accommodate the increased demand during this time.

Local businesses in the affected areas are encouraged to adapt to the temporary road closures by promoting pedestrian-friendly activities and special offers to attract visitors. This is an opportunity for shops and restaurants to attract customers who will be on foot or using alternative transportation methods during the event. By embracing the spirit of “Car-Free City Day,” businesses can show their support for sustainable transportation initiatives and contribute to the overall success of the event.

The “Car-Free City Day” event is part of a larger movement towards creating more environmentally friendly and sustainable cities. By promoting alternative transportation methods and reducing reliance on cars, cities can improve air quality, reduce traffic congestion, and create a more livable urban environment for residents. Events like these serve as a reminder of the importance of individual actions in addressing global challenges such as climate change and pollution, and highlight the role that city initiatives can play in promoting a more sustainable future.
