A food critic wannabe, known as @so_rhidiculous on TikTok, received mixed reactions after giving a scathing review of Estiatorio Milos, a high-end Greek seafood restaurant in Toronto, Canada. The online epicure was disappointed by the service and quality of the food, despite the restaurant’s worldwide acclaim and Michelin recognition. She deemed it the “worst dining experience in Toronto” and criticized the restaurant for providing just bread after an hour of waiting. The influencer particularly disliked the lobster pasta, which she claimed made her feel unwell after eating it. The total bill came to a hefty $290, with the lobster pasta alone costing $145.

Despite the influencer’s negative review, some TikTok users came to the defense of Estiatorio Milos, citing the critic’s lack of experience and maturity. One commenter suggested that the manager’s inquiry about additional orders was a standard practice, while another accused the influencer of being unqualified to critique the restaurant after only trying a few items on the menu. However, others supported the influencer, arguing that the high prices at Milos warranted exceptional service and that waiting over an hour for appetizers was unacceptable. The discourse among users highlighted the varying opinions on the influencer’s review and the restaurant’s quality.

In response to the comments, the influencer acknowledged the feedback and thanked those who supported her critique of the restaurant. Despite the mixed reactions, the influencer stood by her assessment of Estiatorio Milos and urged others to reconsider their expectations for such a high-priced establishment. The controversy surrounding the review shed light on the subjective nature of food criticism and the differing standards for service and quality within the culinary industry.

In 2022, Chef Costas Spiliadis, the founder of Milos, opened his first hotel in Athens, offering luxury accommodations starting at $420 a night. The opening of the hotel marked a new venture for the acclaimed chef and restaurateur, expanding his brand beyond the culinary realm. The success of Estiatorio Milos and Chef Spiliadis’s global presence in the hospitality industry showcased the enduring appeal of high-end Mediterranean cuisine and the commitment to quality and innovation. Despite the negative review from the influencer, Milos continued to attract patrons and maintain its reputation as a top destination for upscale seafood dining.
