The investigation into the disappearance of economist Korhan Berzeg continues in the rural area between the villages of Armutlu and Gelgeç, where bone and clothing fragments, as well as Berzeg’s identification and bank cards, were found. The area, known as Fındıklı Deresi, is rugged and densely forested, making it difficult for authorities to conduct their examinations that began three days ago.
Under the supervision of the Gönen Public Prosecutor’s Office, search activities are ongoing to determine if there are any other bone fragments in the area. A total of 59 personnel, including 6 Gendarmerie Security Teams, 3 Gendarmerie Crime Investigation Teams (JASAT), an Intelligence Team, 3 Gendarmerie Security Commando elements, and 3 cadaver detection dog teams sent by the Provincial Gendarmerie Command, are involved in the investigation.
It has been reported that Korhan Berzeg’s wife Angela and daughter Nisa Berzeg have submitted DNA samples in Gönen, which have been sent to Istanbul for laboratory analysis.
The incident began when Korhan Berzeg, who left his home in Armutlu Village on the morning of June 17, 2023, to go for a walk with his dog “Tina,” could not be reached. In response, the Provincial Directorate of Disaster and Emergency Management launched a search operation.
Search teams scoured the forests of Armutlu and surrounding areas, as well as nearby neighborhoods, water wells, stream beds, and caves for days in an effort to locate Berzeg and his dog, but no traces were found.
On August 29, a citizen noticed a dog in the area between Geyikli and Armutlu villages, which was confirmed by the Berzeg family to be their dog, “Tina.” The dog was found to be healthy and well cared for. Despite the fact that the dog had a GPS device attached to it, no information could be gleaned from its release into the wild.
Approximately 3.5 kilometers away from Armutlu, on April 23, bone and clothing fragments, as well as identity and bank cards, were found by local residents and handed over to the authorities for examination. This discovery has led to an intensification of the investigation into Korhan Berzeg’s disappearance.
