Saudi’s newest luxury cruise line is banking on local passengers, despite the absence of alcohol on board.

Aroya is a new luxury cruise brand based in Saudi Arabia, set to launch in December. The brand is focused on serving the Saudi and Gulf markets, with a spokesperson confirming that the offerings will be tailored to suit the desires of the local audience. Despite the lack of alcoholic beverages onboard, expats are welcome to join in on the fun. Aroya Cruises is part of Saudi Vision 2030, a plan to transform the country into a diverse and internationally appealing destination. The brand’s ship was purchased by Saudi’s Public Investment Fund for $300 million and will offer cruises departing from Jeddah to destinations such as a private island along the Red Sea coast.

The ship used by Aroya was previously designed for the Asian market and had several bars, which have since been removed to comply with Saudi laws and regulations regarding alcohol. The brand plans to maintain this adherence to local laws, even as it expands to other regions such as the Mediterranean. Aroya’s operating company, Cruise Saudi, aims to welcome 1.3 million cruise passengers annually by 2035. To achieve this goal, the brand is in the process of constructing two new ships, which will be positioned globally to establish Aroya as a major player in the cruise industry.

Aroya will offer a range of amenities, including cigar lounges, jacuzzis, dining options, entertainment venues, retail areas, and wellness facilities. The focus on providing experiences that cater to the specific preferences of the Saudi and Gulf markets sets Aroya apart from other cruise brands targeting a more global audience. The brand’s commitment to showcasing Arabian culture and traditions is evident in its programming and food offerings. Despite the regional focus, expats are encouraged to participate, offering a unique opportunity for cultural exchange and exploration.

The success of Aroya and its expansion plans are closely tied to the vision of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to diversify the country’s economy and boost its international appeal. By investing in the cruise industry and developing partnerships with global entities, Aroya aims to position itself as a key player in the market. As the brand prepares to launch its first cruises this December, excitement is building around the unique experiences it will offer to passengers. With additional ships in the works and plans for international expansion, Aroya is poised to make a significant impact on the cruise industry and establish itself as a top choice for luxury travel in the region and beyond.
