Sangiuliano, Rome Prosecutor’s Office and Court of Auditors investigate. Lawyers: “Due diligence”

Former Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano, is under investigation by the prosecutor’s office in Rome for the crimes of peculation and disclosure and dissemination of official secrets. This follows a complaint filed by Avs deputy Angelo Bonelli. Given Sangiuliano’s former role, the case will be transferred to the Court of Ministers. The alleged offenses pertain to the relationship between the former minister and Maria Rosaria Boccia, who was involved in institutional activities without having a mandate. Sangiuliano’s lawyer, Silvero Sica, stated that speaking to the former minister is still pending and that the prosecutor’s action was necessary following Bonelli’s complaint.

Sica also mentioned that he has reviewed the former minister’s chats and is calm about any potential revelations the businesswoman from Pompei might make on a Mediaset program. He emphasized the importance of journalists doing their job properly, by verifying the accuser before moving on to the accused. Sica criticized certain sections of the press for distorting the rules of the profession. Additionally, the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Court of Auditors in Lazio has opened an investigation into any potential damage to public funds related to the former minister’s and his ex-consultant’s travel expenses and use of official vehicles.

The team of auditors in Lazio, led by prosecutor Paolo Rebecchi, will scrutinize hotel stays, travel, meals, and potential misuse of official privileges. The complaint filed by Sangiuliano against Maria Rosaria Boccia will also be examined by the prosecutors, under the direction of prosecutor Francesco Lo Voi. The former minister’s lawyer, Sica, announced that the complaint is being prepared and will be submitted to the authorities in the coming days. It is possible that the ex-tg2 director may personally visit the prosecutor’s office to submit the complaint along with supporting documents that detail the chronology of events in question. The defense team is determined to prove the absolute propriety of their client’s actions and alleges that Sangiuliano may have been subjected to illicit pressures by Boccia.

In response to the pending complaint, Boccia took to social media to express her frustration with Sangiuliano’s lack of apology and continued threats of legal action. She asserted that threats of denunciation resemble extortion and emphasized that legal actions should not be used as threats. The legal battle between Sangiuliano and Boccia seems to be escalating, with both parties standing their ground. The investigation and potential legal proceedings are likely to shed light on the nature of their relationship and the validity of the accusations made against each other. It remains to be seen how this case will unfold and what impact it will have on the reputations of those involved.
