Russia has summoned Germany’s ambassador to protest the inauguration of a new NATO naval command center along the Baltic Sea coast. The center was established to enhance defense readiness in the Baltic Sea region, amid ongoing Russian aggression in Ukraine. Moscow expressed a “decisive protest” to the German ambassador, warning that the expansion of NATO military infrastructure in former East Germany would have negative consequences. Russia’s Foreign Ministry highlighted that the deployment of foreign armed forces in the area violates the 1990 German reunification treaty.

The Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized that the situation would prompt a corresponding response from the Russian side. The establishment of the new naval command center by Germany was seen as a direct violation of the treaty that prohibits the deployment of foreign armed forces in the region. The center, led by a German admiral and manned by personnel from 11 other NATO countries, aims to coordinate naval activities and provide NATO with a comprehensive view of the maritime situation in the Baltic Sea region. Germany’s Defense Minister Boris Pistorius underscored the importance of the center in enhancing defense capabilities and ensuring security in the region.

In response to the escalating tensions, Russia issued a warning indicating that the situation would not go unanswered. The Russian Foreign Ministry criticized the expansion of NATO military infrastructure in former East Germany and highlighted the negative consequences of such actions. The protest against the new naval command center in Rostock reflected Russia’s concerns about the increasing presence of NATO forces in the region. Moscow underscored the violation of the 1990 German reunification treaty, emphasizing that the deployment of foreign armed forces in the area is in breach of the agreement.

The inauguration of the new NATO naval command center in Rostock has raised diplomatic tensions between Russia and Germany. Moscow’s protest against the center highlights the ongoing geopolitical complexities in the Baltic Sea region, with Russia expressing concerns about the expansion of NATO military infrastructure. The center, staffed by personnel from multiple NATO countries, seeks to enhance defense readiness and coordination of naval activities in the region. The deployment of foreign armed forces in violation of the 1990 German reunification treaty has prompted a decisive response from Russia.

As tensions continue to escalate, Russia’s Foreign Ministry warns of a corresponding response to the establishment of the new naval command center by Germany. The situation underscores the broader geopolitical dynamics in the Baltic Sea region, where Russia’s ongoing actions in Ukraine have heightened security concerns. The protest against the center reflects Moscow’s firm stance against the expansion of NATO military infrastructure in former East Germany. Despite diplomatic efforts to address the issue, the deployment of foreign armed forces in the area remains a contentious issue between Russia and Germany.
