Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko issued a stern warning to potential enemies, asserting that anyone who dares to invade his nation will face an immediate response with all types of weapons, including nuclear ones. Lukashenko, a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, has been a staunch supporter of the Kremlin’s actions in Ukraine. He played a role in negotiations between Putin and Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the Wagner Group, during an armed mutiny in Russia. As a sign of their strong relationship, Putin deployed tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus over the summer to deter neighboring countries with troops stationed near Belarus’ borders.
Speaking at a session of the 7th Belarusian People’s Congress, Lukashenko made it clear that he would not hesitate to use the nuclear weapons provided by Russia if he believed his country was under threat. He emphasized that the presence of these weapons served as a deterrent against aggressors who are “armed to the teeth” and posed a threat to Belarus. Lukashenko’s remarks indicated that his country was fully prepared to counter any potential aggressors and inflict significant damage on any adversary that dared to attack Belarus.
Lukashenko debunked the notion that he would not use the nuclear weapons deployed in Belarus by Putin if a conflict were to arise. The Belarusian leader reiterated his country’s doctrine of having the capability to destroy its enemies and made it clear that Belarus was prepared to inflict unacceptable damage on any hostile forces.
