Rudy Guiliani indicted by Arizona Attorney General after taunting prosecutors

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes served former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani in the state’s 2020 election case against him, confirming the news on social media. Giuliani, along with other Trump allies and Arizona Republicans, was charged for allegedly attempting to prevent the lawful transfer of power in the 2020 presidential election. Prosecutors accused them of devising a scheme involving fake electors to falsely claim election fraud, putting pressure on Arizona election officials to overturn the results. Giuliani had not been able to be found to be served the indictment until Mayes’s office tracked him down at his 80th birthday party in Florida.

Mayes responded to a deleted post from Giuliani, where he had taunted Arizona officials, stating that if they couldn’t find him by the next morning, they must dismiss the indictment and admit they couldn’t count votes. Users online noted that Giuliani was wearing the same tie in his birthday livestream as in the deleted post. Mayes’s office was able to serve him at his birthday party in Palm Beach, Florida, where nearly 75 guests were in attendance. This marked the final step in serving all defendants in the case.

The other defendants in the case had already been served, but Giuliani had eluded being officially notified of the criminal charges against him. Prosecutors had been unable to locate the former mayor turned lawyer until tracking him down at his birthday celebration in Florida. The indictments stem from alleged attempts to undermine the results of the 2020 presidential election by pressuring Arizona election officials to overturn the outcome through fraudulent means, such as fake electors claiming election fraud.

Giuliani’s spokesperson has not yet responded to requests for comment on the serving of the indictment at his birthday party. The news of his being served by Arizona authorities adds another twist to the ongoing legal battles and controversies surrounding the 2020 election and its aftermath. The case against Giuliani and other defendants in Arizona sheds light on allegations of attempts to subvert the democratic process and manipulate election results in favor of former President Donald Trump.

The serving of Giuliani at his birthday party in Florida highlights the lengths to which authorities went to ensure that he was officially notified of the criminal charges against him. Mayes’s office’s actions in tracking him down and serving him indicate a commitment to upholding the rule of law and holding all individuals accountable for their actions, regardless of their stature or connections. The ongoing legal saga surrounding the 2020 election continues to unfold, with cases like this one providing insight into the efforts to preserve the integrity of the electoral process and combat attempts at election interference and fraud.
