Rubio reverses course, supports Trump’s deportation plan: Calls immigration an ‘invasion of the country’

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla, recently shifted his stance on former President Trump’s deportation plans, now voicing support for the idea of using the military to deport illegal immigrants from the country. This is a change from his previous criticism of Trump’s plans as “not a workable plan.” Rubio noted that the United States cannot absorb the large number of illegal immigrants who have entered the country, stating that no country could tolerate such a situation. This represents a stark contrast to his previous stance, particularly during his 2015 campaign where he was critical of Trump’s plan to round up and deport millions of illegal immigrants living in the United States.

Trump, on the other hand, has promised to carry out the “largest domestic deportation operation in American history” if he is re-elected in November. He has indicated that he would be willing to use the National Guard if necessary to deport illegal immigrants from the country. Rubio acknowledged that the number of people in the country has increased since his previous stance against mass deportations, but he argued that the risks of inadequate vetting justified taking “dramatic” action to remove those who are in the country illegally, especially those about whom little is known.

Rubio explained his shift in stance by pointing out the significant increase in the number of people who have entered the country illegally in recent years. He expressed concerns about the possibility of terrorists entering the country along with other migrants. Rubio characterized the situation as a “mass migration” and an “invasion of the country.” He emphasized the need for strong measures to address the issue of illegal immigration, particularly given the changing landscape of migration into the United States.

Rubio’s previous comments during his involvement in immigration reform in 2013 emphasized the need to address the issue in a comprehensive manner, recognizing the challenges of deporting millions of people who have been in the country for a long time. However, the current situation with a large influx of migrants in recent years has prompted Rubio to reevaluate his stance and to support more forceful actions to remove those who are in the country illegally. Rubio’s office did not immediately respond to requests for comment on his change in position regarding deportation and immigration policies.

Overall, Rubio’s shift in stance on mass deportation and the use of the military to remove illegal immigrants highlights the ongoing debate and challenges surrounding immigration policy in the United States. The changing dynamics of migration flows, security concerns, and the need to address the presence of millions of undocumented individuals in the country contribute to the complexity of this issue. Rubio’s support for dramatic measures to address illegal immigration reflects the broader tensions and divisions within American society regarding immigration and border security policies.
