Ron DeSantis praises Florida’s education system, criticizes ‘woke’ academia during Sarasota speech

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis recently spoke at Sarasota’s New College of Florida, highlighting the state’s education reforms and criticizing what he sees as ideological indoctrination in academia. DeSantis appointed new members to the college’s board in an effort to reshape the institution to align with his vision. He emphasized the importance of public institutions serving the best interests of the state of Florida and expressed his opposition to using public resources for what he considers ideological indoctrination.

DeSantis outlined his vision for the school, which includes a liberal arts education rooted in the Western tradition similar to what the Founding Fathers had. He argued that the changes made at the school have led to dramatic improvements and will attract students from across the country. The governor also criticized the upheaval in other university campuses in response to global events, stating that letting disruptions go unchecked does not work and that Florida’s approach to education differs from what is seen at Ivy League institutions.

The governor has been a vocal critic of left-wing bias on university campuses, stating that it corrupts institutions when leftist ideology takes over. He pointed out how this ideology has infiltrated various sectors, including academia, corporate America, the medical establishment, and corporate media. DeSantis stressed the importance of basing decisions on evidence-based science rather than political agendas, particularly during the pandemic, where he believes corruption within the medical establishment has been evident.

DeSantis also discussed Florida’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting the state’s controversial decisions that differed from those of other states. He credited these policies with attracting new residents, investments, and businesses to Florida, as people sought to escape stringent lockdowns and higher taxes in blue states. The governor’s handling of the pandemic has received mixed reactions, with some praising his approach and others criticizing it.

The governor’s speech at New College of Florida reflects his commitment to reshaping education in the state and combating what he views as ideological indoctrination in academia. DeSantis has made it clear that he believes public institutions should prioritize the best interests of the state, and he has taken steps to ensure that his vision is implemented at the college. His strong stance on these issues has led to both support and controversy, as well as discussions about the future of education in Florida and beyond.
