Real Madrid’s Rodrygo spoke after his team’s 3-3 draw with Manchester City in the Champions League quarterfinals, stating that the team that makes the fewest mistakes will advance to the semifinals. The match at the Bernabeu saw both teams put on a thrilling display, with Rodrygo scoring to put Los Blancos ahead before City equalized through Bernardo Silva. Goals from Phil Foden and Josko Gvardiol were matched by Fede Valverde, setting up an exciting second leg at the Etihad.

In his post-match comments, Rodrygo admitted that Madrid had wanted to win and come away with a positive result but acknowledged that they made some errors in attack and conceded goals they shouldn’t have. Despite twice coming from behind, Rodrygo felt that his team was able to control the game better after equalizing and recognized the need to defend against long-range shots more effectively. He emphasized the importance of correcting mistakes and focusing on the next week’s crucial match.

Rodrygo highlighted the tactical switch that saw him return to the left wing while Vinicius Jr. played centrally, surprising City with a new approach. Despite the positive aspects of the tactical adjustment, Rodrygo expressed disappointment at the draw and emphasized the need to work on improving their performance ahead of the second leg. Looking ahead to the decisive clash on April 17, Rodrygo identified minimizing errors as the key to victory for either team, predicting that the team that commits fewer mistakes will have the best chance of progressing.

The Brazilian forward reflected on Madrid’s ability to come back from an early deficit in the first-leg match and acknowledged the challenges of facing a strong opponent like Manchester City. With a crucial week of work ahead and a La Liga match in between, Rodrygo expressed determination to continue fighting for a positive result in the Champions League. As the tie hangs in the balance, Rodrygo’s words indicate Madrid’s focus on learning from their mistakes, refining their tactics, and striving to achieve their goal of reaching the semifinals and potentially securing a place in the Wembley final.
