The owner of private club Zero Bond is losing the Hamptons location for his popular restaurant, Sartiano’s — after a summer marred by battles with the notoriously cantankerous residents and local officials over noise complaints.
Scott Sartiano had opened an outpost of his eponymous Soho flagship restaurant at the Hedges Inn in East Hampton last year following the village dashing his bid to open the celebrity-magnet Zero Bond.
But Sartiano’s won’t return to the Hedges this summer because the historic hotel was recently sold.
Locals were so concerned about Zero Bond – whose Manhattan location has attracted Kim Kardashian, Leo DiCaprio, Mayor Eric Adams and Elon Musk – that they restored an old law that forced his restaurant to close its doors at 10 p.m.
Cop cars would be stationed outside Sartiano’s and slap the restaurant with multiple noise violations, leading Sartiano to claim he was the victim of a vendetta from the town’s police chief, as Side Dish exclusively reported.
Sartiano declined comment about his tumultuous summer, or whether he plans to open another East End spot this summer.
The Hedges Inn, which dates to 1873 and is on the National Register of Historic Places, was scooped up for an undisclosed sum by Morgan Stanley investment banking exec Andrew Wetenhall and his wife, Sarah.
They plan to replace Sartiano’s with their own all-day restaurant at the charming 13-room luxury bed and breakfast.
The couple own the Colony Palm Beach and divide their time between Florida, New York City and Sag Harbor.
“Our purchase of The Hedges Inn is not just a real estate transaction, it is a commitment to protecting this important piece of our community’s history for future generations,” said Sarah Wetenhall, the CEO of the Colony Palm Beach.
Their yet-to-be named eatery will partner with local farmers and feature down-home events like bingo and trivia nights, she added.
