If you see SOS or SOS only on your iPhone, it means that you are not connected to a network but can still make emergency calls to services like 911. This usually happens when you are in an area with no network coverage or if your network carrier is experiencing an outage. The SOS message is a distress signal used to call for help or rescue in an emergency, and on an iPhone, it will appear as “SOS” or “SOS only.” On Android phones, it may say “Emergency calls only.” If your phone says no service or no network coverage, it means that emergency services are unavailable via call.

To address the SOS message on your phone, you can try a few troubleshooting steps. Firstly, make sure your area has cellular network coverage by checking with others around you. Turn your cellular data off and on, restart your iPhone, update carrier settings, turn your cellular line off and on, update your iPhone’s software, and reset network settings if necessary. If you are traveling internationally, toggle on Data Roaming. For newer iPhone models, there is a feature called Emergency SOS via Satellite that allows you to contact emergency services in areas without cellular service.

If your phone continues to display the SOS message frequently, you may want to investigate ways to improve your phone’s reception or consider switching phone carriers. In cases where the Emergency SOS via Satellite feature is available, it can be used as an alternative method to contact emergency services in remote locations. It is essential to understand the significance of the SOS message on your phone and the steps you can take to ensure that you can still make emergency calls even without a cellular connection. By following the recommended troubleshooting tips, you can resolve network connectivity issues and maintain access to emergency services when needed.
