Teddi Mellencamp is celebrating a major milestone in her cancer battle.
The former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, 43, underwent her final radiation treatment on Thursday, April 3, and marked the occasion by ringing her hospital’s cancer bell.
Mellencamp documented the moment via her Instagram Stories on Thursday. In a video, the reality star said she had gotten her “graduation papers” and read from a plaque under the bell. She then rang the bell three times before hugging and celebrating with friends off-camera, who congratulated her.
“Ringing the bell can signify a major phase of treatment — today was my last day of radiation,” Mellencamp wrote over the video. “5 more rounds of immunotherapy to go. Love you all for the kind messages.”
Earlier Thursday, the “Two Ts in a Pod” podcast host gave an update on her cancer treatment. “Today’s a pretty big day,” she said in a video. “Today’s supposed to be my final day of radiation, granted it was supposed to be last week, but then they found those pesky four more tumors.”
Keeping her spirits up, Mellencamp wore a yellow T-shirt emblazoned with the words, “I’m a ray of f****** sunshine.”
“I wore a nice shirt … just in case I do get to ring my bell,” she said. “I have a pretty good feeling.”
Mellencamp first revealed in February that she was to undergo surgery for multiple brain tumors. She’s been undergoing treatment ever since and revealed that in late March, doctors found four more tumors on her brain.
“I’m fighting for my life,” Mellencamp told Us Weekly exclusively in our latest cover story, “But also for my family’s life and all the people I love.”
The Bravo alum added, “This is definitely the hardest thing [I’ve faced in my life], but now it feels less hard. When I was in the ICU, it was incredibly difficult because I had no memory. One day, I realized it was my daughter’s birthday, and I couldn’t be there for it; it was really sad. It’s still sad when I can’t be there for my kids the way I’d normally be.”
Mellencamp also shared that she’s been dealing with her health issues by embracing humor.
“Everybody wants me to be super positive all the time. One of my coping mechanisms is being sarcastic,” she explained. “I’d rather joke about it and have the best possible outcome than be completely in denial and have my heart broken.”
