A female airplane passenger was flabbergasted after returning from her bathroom to find a note with a shocking request on her seat.
“Went to the bathroom on a 9-hour flight, came back to find this,” the flyer detailed in a Reddit post taking off online.
She shared a picture of the anonymous air mail, which simply read, “Hey, can I get your number?”
The message seemed especially cryptic as the secret sender didn’t leave their info so there was no way to get ahold of them even if she were interested.
“I’m still bemused by this because the note-giver did not reveal themselves so even if I DID want to I had no way of doing so,” exclaimed the Redditor, who tried to identify her mile-high admirer, but to no avail.
“I had the aisle seat and was sat next to a much older married couple (husband next to me), but he didn’t interact with me the whole flight,” she said. “No idea who else it could have been.”
The plot seemed to thicken given that the Redditor’s boyfriend was also on the flight, seated across the aisle but ahead of her, Newsweek reported.
But when the flummoxed flyer showed her beau the message, he insisted that it wasn’t from him.
The passenger wrote in the comments that she “spent the next several hours of the flight in quiet confusion” over the identity of her suitor in the sky.
Redditors had their own suggestions for sussing out the sender.
“I would point blank ask them (the couple) if someone put that in your seat,” said one, to which a fellow Redditor responded, “Yep, I would have asked the married couple. I’d be too curious not to.”
“I’d ask loudly ‘WHO LEFT ME THE LOVE NOTE’ and watch who turns red or says ‘it’s not a love note,’” suggested another. “That’s your guilty party. Then judge accordingly.”
“I think your only option is to stand up and loudly announce your phone number,” advised another.
However, the Redditor clarified that she wasn’t interested in some fly-by-night fling.
“I’ve received a lot of suggestions about how to respond to the person, but I think people are missing the point!” she declared in the comments. “I have a boyfriend and so was not interested, but even if I was single, why would I give out my number to a completely anonymous stranger without even having seen them? It was a strange thing to do.”
