Nancy Pelosi hospitalized after injury overseas
01:02
Washington — Former House Speaker has been hospitalized after sustaining an injury as part of a congressional delegation on a trip to Luxembourg, her office said Friday.”While traveling with a bipartisan Congressional delegation in Luxembourg to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi sustained an injury during an official engagement and was admitted to the hospital for evaluation,” spokesperson Ian Krager said in a statement. “Speaker Emerita Pelosi is currently receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals.”The nature of the injury was not immediately clear. Krager said Pelosi continues to work from the hospital and “looks forward to returning home to the U.S. soon.”Pelosi, 84, served as Democratic leader in the House for 20 years, including two stints as speaker, before stepping aside two years ago. She won another term to represent her San Francisco district in Congress in November, and remains an influential party figure, with the title of speaker emerita. The congressional delegation on the trip to Luxembourg featured members of both parties, including GOP Rep. Michael McCaul, the outgoing chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. A total of 18 lawmakers traveled to commemorate the Battle of the Bulge, the last major German offensive on the western front during World War II.
The lawmakers met with the grand duke of Luxembourg earlier in the day on Friday, according to photos on the grand duke’s Instagram account.
