They’re not McLovin’ it.
McDonald’s fans are ribbing the restaurant chain after learning what a McRib is actually made of.
Hint: It’s not a “rib.”
The sandwich features a seasoned slab of pork, for sure — but uses a patty of ground, boneless pork shoulder, according to Taste.
The patty is emulsified with water, spices, dextrose sugar and preservatives to create its signature flavor and texture and then molded to look like a rack of ribs.
It’s also not properly barbecued. The smoldering flavor is made from liquid smoke and BBQ sauce.
People around the world love the McRib but learning what really goes into making the sandwich had some folks turning away from the counter, accusing it of being a “flat hot dog” or a “sausage” on Reddit.
But many fans are still lining up.
“I unashamedly love this thing even knowing what it is,” someone commented.
“McShoulder…im lovin’ it,” another joked.
Those who want a bite should hurry over to the closest McDonald’s before it’s too late.
McDonald’s recently announced the return of the McRib on Tuesday, Dec. 3, for a limited time only at participating locations — with a unique twist for 2024.
Mickey D’s released a new, festive jingle and music video — titled “It Could Only Mean One Thing (McRib is Here)” — to accompany the dense sandwich, packed with pickles and onions.
Adding to the fanfare, pork patty partisans who can’t get enough of the legendary sandwich — and want to make their own at home — will be able to snap up a half-gallon jug of the sauce for just $19.99, the Golden Arches declared in a release.
The containers, decorated to look like Christmas sweaters, went on sale last month under the title “A Whole Lotta McRib Sauce.”
