The Red Devils’ poor start to the 2024-25 campaign saw Erik ten Hag receive his marching orders, but the Dutchman’s successor, Ruben Amorim, has failed to lift United into the top half of the table.Amorim will, however, finally get the chance to put his own stamp on the squad he inherited last year. And given United’s struggles in front of goal this term, signing a new striker is right at the top of his agenda.United have been keeping tabs on a host of strikers in recent weeks to prepare for the summer window. Here, Mirror Football takes a look at the No.9’s who could walk through the doors at Old Trafford in the summer transfer window…Liam DelapManchester United are among the Premier League clubs who have been impressed by Delap, 22, in his maiden season with Ipswich Town.READ MORE: Ruben Amorim discovers real reason behind Geovany Quenda’s Man Utd snubREAD MORE: Man Utd reveal where club will play home games while new £2bn stadium is builtThe England Under-21 star has been Ipswich’s standout player since joining in the summer, scoring 10 goals to keep their survival hopes alive and piquing the interest of United and Chelsea, among others.Regardless of whether or not Kieran McKenna’s side retain their top-flight status, Delap is nailed on to be a Premier League player next year – and he’d be attainable for United.VERDICT – LIKELYHugo EkitikeA player who has long been linked with a Premier League switch, Ekitike has been in phenomenal form for Eintracht Frankfurt this term, netting 19 goals in 38 games. The 22-year-old is another player, like Delap, who is expected to move this summer and the France Under-21 star will have no shortage of suitors if he continues plundering goals between now and the end of the season.Hugo Ekitike is another player United admire(Image: Pau Barrena/Getty Images)In terms of United’s interest, Ekitike is a realistic target. But with rumoured interest from clubs who can offer Champions League football, they could be outgunned.VERDICT – UNLIKELYBenjamin SeskoBasically, any club worth their salt in Europe will have eyes on Sesko after another impressive season for the 21-year-old Slovenia star.Arsenal’s interest in the RB Leipzig man is well known and they are expected to push hard for his signature if, as expected, he is given the green light to pursue a move by his current club in the summer transfer window.Benjamin Sesko has a host of Premier League interest(Image: AFP via Getty Images)United’s interest in Sesko is also believed to be long-term. But given where they currently are compared to Arsenal, beating their old rivals to Sesko would likely be a tall order.VERDICT – UNLIKELYVictor OsimhenOsimhen had long established himself as one of Europe’s most prolific goalscorers before his relationship with Napoli turned sour. The Nigeria international was subsequently snapped up by Galatasaray, albeit on loan, and has been linked more and more with United in recent weeks.Given his pedigree in Italy, a deal for Osimhen would hold obvious appeal at the right price. And Osimhen could find the opportunity to make a fresh start with one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs hard to turn down.United have also been linked with Victor Osimhen(Image: Getty Images)VERDICT – LIKELYViktor GyokeresAfter flourishing under Amorim at Sporting Lisbon, it’s not been a surprise to see Gyokeres heavily linked with United ever since he made the jump to the Premier League. Will Gyokeres follow him? Possibly. Like Sesko, the Sweden star is expected to find a new home in the summer transfer window, and his remarkable goal record means there will be plenty of competition if United do try and strike a deal with Sporting.Viktor Gyokeres flourished under Ruben Amorim at Sporting Lisbon(Image: Getty Images)But recent reports have indicated that Gyokeres would prefer to join a club who can offer Champions League football – and unless they go on to win the Europa League, that would put United out of the running.VERDICT – UNLIKELYJoin our new MAN UTD WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Manchester United content from Mirror Football.
