On Wednesday morning, not even 24 hours after the initial statement, the iced tea brand posted an update, that “peach is here to stay” — saying it was all a big joke.
“Oops, is it still March? Got my dates mixed up…thought it was April Fools already! I’d never take away your favorite flavour, pookies,” Lipton shared on Instagram.
“Your love of peach has not gone unnoticed. But I’ve got your back, I will be sending a surprise to the biggest fans with the best reactions,” they added with a winky face.
It’s unclear why exactly Lipton pulled the prank, but The Post has reached out to the company for comment.
Unsurprisingly, fans of the beverage brand bombarded the comments section of the second post expressing frustration and disappointment.
But fans were not pleased.
“Can we not with this new marketing strategy, its annoying,” one person wrote.
“I actually went and bought a ton of cans. Not funny,” someone declared.
“I want to be compensated in ice tea for the grief this caused,” a third fan fumed.
“What audacity you have to try and fool us! We are not a toy. We have feelings,” another declared.
