In the early 90s, Lee Norris captured the hearts of fans as Stuart Minkus on Boy Meets World and later in the early ’00s as Marvin “Mouth” McFadden on One Tree Hill.
Now, Lee is living a quiet life in North Carolina with his wife, Andrea Norris, and their 6-year-old son.
While talking with his former Boy Meets World costars on the “Pod Meets World” podcast, Lee said his son still wasn’t aware he was once an actor on some of the most popular television shows when he was asked to rewatch an episode for the podcast.
“We live in North Carolina, and so we haven’t really had this conversation with him yet of, ‘Oh, Dad was on TV.’ It just hasn’t really come up,” Lee told Danielle Fishel, Rider Strong and Will Friedle.
“He’s getting to the age now, at 6, where I think he’s starting to realize when we go out, sometimes people ask for a picture with Dad. Maybe that’s not totally normal,” he continued.
“So I thought, ‘OK, this is a good time to talk about it.’ So he actually sat down and watched the episode with me,” Lee explained, calling it “surreal and cool.”
“So, yeah, this was a really cool moment. And you know, God, did you ever think like back, I mean, we were kids,” he said of watching the show with his own son. “I just couldn’t wrap my brain around it. So that was really cool.”
Fishel, Strong and Friedle agreed.
“My son loved it,” Lee later said of the episode they watched together. “He loved my character, which made me happy. He loved Danielle. It was really special to experience that with him.”
Lee also admitted that he has realized some similarities between his real-life son and his character, Minkus.
“My wife and I were getting ready for bedtime or something, and he was looking at his books — we always do story time at night, and this was before he’d seen Boy Meets World,” Lee recalled. “I can’t even tell you what he was saying, but I just heard him, you know, out of the corner of my ear, say, ‘According to my calculations …’ And I just froze.”
“I don’t know if I ever said that as Minkus,” Lee continued. Strong exclaimed, “But it’s such a Minkus line!”
“And his little voice sounds, you know, a lot like mine,” Lee admitted. “And it’s just one of those moments where I froze and was like, ‘According to my calculations.’ I was like, ‘Oh, my God. Oh, my God, this is crazy.’”
