An American travel blogger has stunned her social media followers by revealing the country where residents “treated her like dirt.”
Malikah Kelly — who has traveled to dozens of countries across the globe — named and shamed the nation as Saint Kitts and Nevis.
“Where I was treated like dirt was by other black people in Saint Kitts,” the explorer declared in a TikTok clip that clocked up tens of thousands of views.
“It really was like a terrible, sad time, because I had never been treated like that [before],” she added. “I never had that kind of experience on vacation.”
Kelly began her video by stating: “You guys love to ask me what the most racist places I’ve been to are, and how the racism is in different countries especially since I have lived in and travelled to a lot of countries.”
She went on to say she traveled to the island of Saint Kitts — which is part of Saint Kitts and Nevis — for a relaxing Caribbean vacation after living in Italy.
The travel blogger claimed she was ignored and demeaned by staff as soon as she arrived at her beachside resort.
“The time that I spent hanging out at the pools or on the beach was just awful, I could barely get a drink to save my life, I cannot get a server to come take care of me literally to save my life,” she said.
However, the rude behavior wasn’t only confined to hotel employees.
Kelly also said shopkeepers on the island were similarly dismissive of her.
Shortly before the conclusion of her vacation, Kelly struck up a friendship with “a whole bunch of corporate white people” who arrived at the resort for a work retreat.
She did not disclose the nationality of that group, but said their presence helped turn her holiday around.
The travel blogger added that the group was eager to hear about her time living in Europe.
“A lot of people say Italy is so racist, but I never had that experience,” she stated in her video, adding that she had lived there for three years.
Some viewers were stunned to hear that Kelly had a negative time on the island of Saint Kitts, with one saying: “I wasn’t expecting St.Kitts! I guess that’s why I’ve never seemed to make it there. Now 100% off my list. Thanks for sharing your experience.”
