AFL star Zach Tuohy has revealed he suffered from postpartum depression following the birth of his first child. The emotional sports star admitted during Tuesday’s episode of I’m A Celebrity that his first year after welcoming his son Flynn with his wife Rebecca was difficult.’It was no good for a bit. The first 12 months was hard,’ Tuohy told fellow footy star Sam Thaiday.’It has been suggested to me a few times that I might have had postpartum (depression) because apparently blokes can get it.’He revealed he used to drive to his AFL training and ‘pull in on the way back and just cry in the car and get it all out and then go in and I’d be really short with (Rebecca).”I just thought I had good old-fashioned depression. I didn’t know how she was going to respond because it was 10 years ago,’ he continued.Tuohy then broke down in tears as he revealed it took Rebecca 11 days to read it. And whenever it does come for that player, they [teammates] will have his back.’Tuohy, an Irish import who won a premiership with the Cats in 2022, added players shouldn’t feel their sexuality would derail the focus of the playing group.’It [acceptance] is shifting and changing,’ Tuohy said. The AFL remains one of the only professional sporting leagues in the world to have no active or even retired stars to publicly identify as gay or bisexual.
