As Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns said in Port St. Lucie on Wednesday when asked about Jose Iglesias, a key part of the team’s midseason turnaround and run to the NLCS, Stearns made it apparent they were moving on — regardless of how much the 35-year-old’s performance and attitude sparked the team.
“Where we are now, for that role on our team, it’s important for us to keep some avenues open for our younger players,” Stearns said. “We think it’s important for us to have some roster flexibility with that spot.”
Another former Met, Mark Canha, is experiencing a similar offseason as Iglesias.
