The relationship between Denise Richards’ daughters and their dad Charlie Sheen is “complicated.”
“It’s been [complicated] from day one and both girls are finding their path in the relationship and that’s OK,” Richards, 54, exclusively shared with Us Weekly before the Tuesday, March 4, premiere of Denise Richards and Her Wild Things. “Things can be up and down, but you can always get through it.”
Richards was married to Sheen, 59, from 2002 to 2006. During their relationship, the couple welcomed Sami, 20, and Lola, 19. (Richards also adopted Eloise, 13, in 2011.)
While Sami played coy about her status with Charlie, describing it as “complicated,” Lola said her relationship with the Two and a Half Men actor has grown stronger in recent years.
“My life is way more enjoyable when we have a relationship because if not, it’s like, I hate having that feeling of not talking,” Lola told Us. “Obviously, we go through ups and downs sometimes, but our relationship is good. When I really started to struggle with my mental health, he really helped me because he’s not very emotional so he kind of gets straight to the point, and I think that’s what helped me in moments of anxiety.”
Before growing her faith in Jesus, Lola said she was a “very big hypochondriac.” She found comfort in her dad who “would help me a lot with that stuff. That’s when we got way closer.”
Charlie is expected to make a special guest appearance on this season of Denise Richards and Her Wild Things. While Richards admitted it took “some convincing” to get her ex to appear onscreen, she’s grateful to show viewers what her blended family looks like in real life.
“I think that a lot of people will be able to relate to [it],” she explained. “It’s not easy having a blended family. It’s not easy being divorced no matter what the circumstances are, but you do your best to try to keep things as positive and peaceful as possible.”
Another man who will make an appearance in the show is Richards’ husband Aaron Phypers.
Married since September 2018, the pair shared the screen together when Richards starred in The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. When approached to participate in another reality show, Richards said her husband was down for another adventure.
“Oh he’s very supportive of anything I do, thank God,” she said. “He is so great with that, and he was like, ‘Whatever you want to do, I’ll support any decision.’”
