She said “yes” — but people weren’t so happy for the couple.

A woman posted a video on X revealing that she and her husband pulled a stunt in a restaurant that has sparked a fiery debate online.

“My husband fake proposed to get us free drinks last night,” Jaela Bumpas captioned the video with a laughing emoji.

The video, taken by an onlooker, showed Bumpas’s husband getting on one knee and appearing to propose to her inside the Moana Surfrider resort in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Other restaurant customers were clapping and cheering as the husband picked up his wife and twirled her around and kissed her.

No one else at the eatery was aware of the deception. However, once the LA woman posted the truth on social media, it quickly went viral with more than 38.2 million views and 462,000 likes.

People were split on whether or not the stunt was appropriate or atrocious.

“You steal from the restaurant you were at, you’re proud enough of doing so to post it on X, and 347,000 people liked the post. Sad commentary on a lot of levels,” one person wrote.

“I consider that theft,” someone declared.

“Deceiving people is not the win you think it is,” another commented.

“People like this will ruin sweet gestures like this for all of the genuine people,” someone else said.

Other people were more on board with the idea.

“lmaooo i love when people with the same sense of humor date,” a user said.

“Technically not a scam because you did get married,” someone pointed out.

“Before y’all start judging, have you never faked a birthday to get free dessert?” another questioned.

“God forbid a man has fun and gets to enjoy a sweet treat through his own mischievous schemes,” one wrote.

One person in the replies asked if it worked, to which Bumpas responded, “Yes” — but she told TODAY.com that it wasn’t the restaurant that gave them free drinks, but rather another patron who treated them to margaritas.

Bumpas also told the outlet that it got to a point where the comments took a dark turn.

“A lot of people reached out, which felt good, but then it was also a frustrating experience due to the racism,” Bumpas told TODAY. “It made me want to delete the tweet a lot of times because it started becoming more racist.”
