Chrishell Stause and Nicole Young‘s feud made for great TV but now their issues are affecting the production of Netflix’s Selling Sunset.
Selling Sunset, which debuted in 2019, follows employees at high-end Los Angeles real estate brokerage the Oppenheim Group. The Netflix series boasts expensive homes, but it is the drama between the cast that keeps viewers coming back for more.
Chrishell is an OG cast member who has seen her fair share of onscreen tension, which meant she was prepared when Nicole joined the show in season 6. The pair immediately found themselves at odds while feuding over their qualifications. More specifically, Nicole accused Chrishell of only getting real estate listings because their boss Jason Oppenheim had a crush on her.
The soap actress, who dated Jason for several months in 2021 following her divorce, denied the claims and escalated the situation by alleging that Nicole was on drugs at a group dinner. Nicole denied the accusation and Chrishell attempted to fix their issues one season later, but Nicole wouldn’t apologize for her past comments.
Tensions heightened in season 7 when Nicole brought up rumors that Emma Hernan was allegedly sleeping with a married man. In response, Chrishell made it clear she had no plans to work with Nicole in the future and the newcomer’s screen time was later put on pause.
“I had a call with production two days ago during which they told me I have absolutely not been fired from the cast but they chose to pause my filming schedule until next week in order to protect me from situations on set that had become very contentious,” Nicole told Us Weekly in a statement in January 2025. “I’m still debating whether or not I want to continue filming in this kind of environment, especially with so many infuriating double standards.”
She continued: “Selling Sunset has been a great opportunity and a wild ride, but it is not my life or identity. I have a big, beautiful life outside of the show… and thankfully in the real world, my life and personality can’t be edited or misconstrued to portray me negatively to fit into a produced storyline.”

Nicole made a memorable entrance when she joined Selling Sunset in season 6 and immediately brought up her issues with Chrishell.
“A couple of years ago, Jason added both Nicole and I onto a listing. And Nicole didn’t think that I deserved any credit when the house sold because I was a fairly new agent. And she felt like she did a lot more work than I did,” Chrishell recalled on the show. “Even though I did show the house to multiple buyers, and I held open houses.”
Chrishell tried to be the bigger person by offering a truce, adding, “I’m hoping we can move forward [from the drama]. It felt ugly. It felt gross. And it doesn’t matter who’s right anymore because we’re both going to lose in this situation. We can lose in business, in friendships. And it’s not something I want to be involved in. So I just want to apologize because I know that I got really upset and triggered about certain things.”
Despite Chrishell’s attempt to take responsibility, Nicole was not ready to own up to any mistakes.
“She apologized but it was very vague. Here’s the thing, was it the right move? I don’t know. Did I lose an opportunity to be able to mend things and move on? I don’t know,” Nicole explained on screen. “Honestly, I should’ve just nipped it in the bud and moved on. But I hope we have an opportunity to have that encounter again, so I can apologize.”

Season 6 got even messier when Chrishell claimed Nicole was on drugs at a group dinner. Nicole denied the allegations as Chrishell continued to question her intentions on the show.
“The thirst for camera time on season 6 is REAL. Wow. That was insanity. But also SO transparent. Get your 15mins girl but leave my business out of it 🤡,” Chrishell wrote via Instagram at the time. “Screenshots have been archived for this very moment. Of COURSE you have a huge issue with me now — not before — when you have a camera crew around you. I hate fake 💩. If you want camera time — JUST SAY THAT. I would have helped you get the right angle. But don’t try to come for people I love or my business when you were added and I was there to hype you up, excited for you.”

After season 6 premiered on Netflix, Nicole opened up about facing backlash from fans due to her disagreements with Chrishell.
“The vicious hatred I’ve received from strangers stings a lot less when surrounded by the ARMY of loyal friends and family who love and support me, lift me up and most importantly, know who I really am,” she wrote via Instagram on Monday, May 22. “At the end of the day, that’s all that matters ❤️❤️❤️.”
Chrishell weighed in on Nicole’s claims that same month, writing via Instagram Story, “Being on a reality show on such a huge platform makes for an influx of feedback and I am certainly not a stranger to death threats after 6 seasons. Your opinions help make this show what it is & clearly I have my own. But let’s keep it fun please.”

Chrishell and Nicole reunited to film season 7 and got off on the wrong foot. After Emma confronted Nicole at an event for calling her a “social climber,” Chrishell sided with Emma.
“I will continue to say [that] everything I say about you is true,” Chrishell told Nicole. “I make more than you in five minutes than you could ever make in five years. You’ve rearranged your whole face. You got everything done.”
When Nicole referred to her coworkers as “f— king mean girls,” Chrishell wondered why she wasn’t allowed to defend herself. “Listen, you dish it [and] we can dish it back,” she added.

During the season 7 reunion, Chrishell maintained that she felt “hate” toward Nicole, adding, “I own it. I don’t care that it’s not nice. I do hate you and I know you hate me.”
Nicole, however, claimed she apologized to Chrishell but it never aired.
“Just wanted to jump on here really quick because there’s something in the reunion that wasn’t shown in the final edit,” she wrote via Instagram Stories after the reunion started streaming. “I don’t know why. I don’t understand. I have no explanation, but during the reunion taping, I definitely did apologize to Chrishell.”
Nicole continued: “For whatever reason they decided not to put it in the final edit. So you won’t see that unfortunately this evening but it definitely did happen. I just want to point that out because I think that’s an important piece to this whole puzzle moving forward.”

One season later, Chrishell brought up how Nicole “liked” negative comments about her, which included anti-LGBTQIA+ statements. (Nicole addressed her problematic social media interactions at the season 7 reunion in late 2023 after she responded to a comment from a viewer on Instagram who referred to Chrishell as the “lesbian chick.”)
“To me there are two options, you either are homophobic or you’re not and you were just so excited and wrapped up in your hate for me that you banded onto people that hated me and happened to be attacking me for my sexuality,” Chrishell told Nicole. “If you owned it I would be like, ‘OK.’ I would respect it and we could move on.”
Nicole was encouraged to “take accountability” for her behavior by bosses Jason and Brett Oppenheim.
“It was a stupid mistake,” Nicole explained to Chrishell. “I fully support you. I am not homophobic. It tears me up that you or anyone else would think that because I am not. I know how hurtful it is. I am truly, deeply sorry.”
The coworkers hugged it out but the truce didn’t last long. Days before season 8 aired, Chrishell put Nicole on blast via Instagram for spreading a rumor on the show about Emma allegedly having an affair with a married man.

Speaking of the affair, viewers had no idea what they were in for when Chrishell publicly called Nicole out before season 8 premiered.
“Disclaimer when you watch: Just know she spews a disgusting lie about a bestie that is categorically FALSE and SUPER damaging,” Chrishell wrote via Instagram. “Someone needs to take my phone [because] 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬. Are we really still giving air time to LIARS that just want air time??” she added. “I will NEVER work on a show with her on it again. I would rather be sued.”
Emma broke her silence on the rumors, telling Netflix’s Tudum, “Nicole was made aware by that source that the rumors she was spreading about me were absolutely not true, and despite knowing she was spreading lies, she continued to do so on camera over the following months. I am so disappointed that she would do such a thing to another woman.”
Nicole, meanwhile, stood by her decision to address the topic on Selling Sunset.
“I only talked about this because I assumed that Emma knew [that the rumor had been circulating]. I’d also been told there were going to be certain things that would be shown to support that,” Nicole noted to Tudum that same month. “For example, at the party featured in the season 7 finale, the woman who brought this information to me confronted Emma — it was a filmed event when both Emma and I were mic-ed up. This was not something I just came up with.”

During an interview with Pedestrian TV, Chrishell made it clear that she would never forgive Nicole — and only film with her if she got a big pay bump.
“At the end of the day, obviously I have very strong feelings about her that I stand 10 toes down on and I don’t take any of that back. I believe every bit of it,” Chrishell said in a TikTok video. “However, I am also a business woman.I always will be able to change my mind if you add a zero. So listen, I hate her, but if you are going to pay me a ton of money to go say it to her face, then write the check.”
January 2025
A report from TMZ claimed Nicole’s involvement in Selling Sunset was put on pause after Chrishell previously threatened to quit. An explosive incident allegedly took place late last year between Nicole and other coworkers at the Oppenheim Group. The cast dinner captured a reported confrontation between Nicole, Chrishell and Emma.
Per the report, Nicole then filmed a one-on-one scene with Jason where he suggested she take a step back from the office. After the talk, Nicole told Us she didn’t film any new content for season 9 of the hit reality series while Chrishell has yet to publicly address the development.
