Restoration of the Atatürk Square Mosque, which is believed to have been built during the Dulkadiroğulları Beylik period and renovated by Ağcabey in 1809 according to its inscription, was heavily damaged in the earthquake in Kahramanmaraş on February 6, 2023. The mosque was closed to visitors and restoration work began last year by the Adana Foundations Regional Directorate.
The damaged parts of the mosque have been repaired, its collapsed minaret, walls, and wooden parts have been restored to their original state, and the garden of the mosque has been rearranged with new trees planted. The restoration process has been mostly completed.
Bahçe Kaymakam, Aziz Kayabaşı, stated that Ağcabey Mosque is one of the important historical monuments of the district. He emphasized that care was taken to preserve the historical texture of the worship center during the restoration. Stones and wooden parts of the mosque were reused in the restoration, and similar materials were used for the ones that were not usable.
Kayabaşı mentioned that the restoration is almost finished, hoping to reopen the mosque for worship on June 7. Bahçe Mayor Zeynel Mete Kadıoğlu mentioned that MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli closely monitored the restoration work at the historical mosque. He thanked Bahçeli for his efforts in the restoration, stating that he took great care in ensuring the mosque’s revival and strengthening.

He expressed his gratitude to MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli for his dedication to the restoration, highlighting his efforts in ensuring the mosque stands strong and firm for years to come.
