Indian travelers to Singapore have continued to rise, surpassing the 1 million mark with a 12% increase in visitors from India between January and October 2024 compared to the previous year. However, the number has not yet recovered to pre-pandemic levels, when Singapore welcomed 1.4 million Indian tourists. The Singapore Tourism Board had previously expressed hopes of reaching 1.5 million tourists from India in 2024 but did not set a specific target. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation data shows that short-haul destinations remain popular among Indian travelers, with the United Arab Emirates being the top destination followed by Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, and Qatar.

The merger of Air India and Vistara has been completed, creating a single full-service carrier in India operating over 5,600 weekly flights under the Air India brand. The loyalty programs of both airlines have been combined into a new program called ‘Maharaja Club.’ Industry experts believe this merger could lead to increased service standards within the Indian aviation industry, as the combined entity has a fleet of 208 aircraft. The Tata Group purchased Air India from the Indian government in 2022 and began its reformation process, including placing an order for 470 new aircraft and upgrading its fleet with new brand imagery and the addition of Premium Economy to its cabin configuration.

EIH Limited, the parent company of Oberoi Hotels, plans to open 20 properties by 2029, including nine international destinations such as London, Egypt, Bhutan, Nepal, and Saudi Arabia. The expansion includes the opening of 17 hotels, two luxury boats, and a Nile Cruiser, totaling around 1,350 keys. Cox & Kings, a tour operator, is making a return to India under new leadership with Singapore-based venture capital firm Wilson & Hughes. The focus is on integrating advanced technology such as AI, machine learning, and data analytics to offer tailor-made travel experiences. IndiGo has launched a new direct route between Goa and Bhopal, expanding its domestic and international network to make travel more accessible for Indian travelers from smaller cities.

StampMyVisa, an AI-powered travel visa processing startup, has raised over $780,000 to expand its operations and enhance its AI capabilities. The B2B travel startup aims to streamline visa processes for businesses and plans to introduce new products such as an insurance offering refunds for visa rejections and travel eSIMs. This funding will help support the company’s growth and development in the travel and visa processing industry, catering to the needs of businesses and travelers alike. The Indian travel industry continues to see growth and innovation as companies and airlines adapt to changing consumer preferences and behaviors, providing new opportunities and challenges for the future.
