Report: Disney World implements ban on Crocs on escalators after a series of incidents

Walt Disney World has reportedly banned Crocs on escalators following multiple incidents where the foam shoes have become jammed and stuck in the escalator teeth, causing them to be out of service. Photos of “No Crocs” signage on escalators at The Land Pavilion in Disney’s EPCOT have been shared online, with images of Crocs stuck in the escalator teeth surfacing on social media. Similar incidents have been reported at The Land Pavilion in previous years, with photos and videos showing Crocs wedged into escalators and causing escalator malfunctions.

One TikTok video showed a single white Croc stuck in an escalator at The Land Pavilion, with comedic music overlayed. In another incident in January, a pair of rainbow tie-dye Crocs were found jammed toe-first in an escalator, causing the walkway to be closed off. Similar photos and videos of Crocs stuck in escalators at Disney World have been circulating online for years, with one clip from 2022 showing a woman discovering a black Croc nearly half eaten by an escalator.

The issue of Crocs getting stuck in escalators is not unique to Disney World, as similar incidents have been reported at other locations as well. In 2017, a 5-year-old British boy reportedly lost a toe when his Croc got caught in a moving escalator at a hotel in Dubai. While the images of Crocs stuck in escalators have generated laughter online, the shoes pose a real safety hazard, especially for young children. The No Crocs signage has been present on escalators at Disney Springs since at least 2021, according to reports from the Disney Food Blog.

Despite the amusement and humor generated by photos and videos of Crocs stuck in escalators, the incidents are a serious safety concern. It’s unclear whether there have been any injuries resulting from Crocs becoming lodged in escalators at Disney World, as the theme park has not provided information regarding the number of incidents or any resulting injuries. The presence of No Crocs signage on escalators at Disney World indicates that the amusement park is taking measures to prevent further escalator malfunctions caused by the popular foam shoes. As Crocs continue to be a popular footwear choice, customers are advised to be cautious when wearing them on escalators to prevent accidents and malfunctions.
