In the interview with House Foreign Affairs Committee chairman Rep. Michael McCaul, he discussed the recent attack in Moscow carried out by ISIS-K, a group originating from Afghanistan. He expressed concern about the potential threat in Eurasia and Europe, emphasizing the need for vigilance in light of the fall of Afghanistan and the lack of intelligence capabilities in the region. He highlighted the danger posed by ISIS using Afghanistan as a new training ground.

McCaul mentioned the warning the US had conveyed to Russia about the threat from ISIS and the need for ongoing alertness. He also discussed the State Department’s failure to adequately plan for the withdrawal and evacuation from Afghanistan, leading to a chaotic situation. He criticized the lack of preparedness in multiple regions where US interests are at risk, citing the threat to the embassy in Haiti and the ongoing crisis in Niger.

The conversation moved on to the issue of aiding Afghan allies who worked with the US, with McCaul acknowledging the importance of fulfilling the promise to evacuate them. He commended the addition of 12,000 special visas in the government funding bill to assist Afghan partners and interpreters. The discussion then shifted to the urgency of providing aid to Ukraine, with McCaul expressing concern about the dire situation in the country and emphasizing the need to act swiftly to prevent a potential loss to Putin.

Regarding the internal dynamics within the House, McCaul addressed the issue of the motion to vacate the chair introduced by Marjorie Taylor Greene in an effort to oust House Speaker Johnson. He stressed the importance of governing effectively amidst global crises and the need for bipartisanship in addressing national security interests. McCaul highlighted the significance of getting things done for the country, especially in the realm of national security and international relations.

In the final segment, McCaul responded to allegations that Israel was obstructing aid deliveries in Gaza, noting the logistical and security challenges involved. He mentioned discussions with aid organizations and Israeli officials about the complex situation in Gaza and the competing interests at play. McCaul expressed skepticism about Hamas’ intentions in ceasefire talks and emphasized the need for stability in the region. The interview concluded with a reflection on the importance of cooperation and governance in addressing global challenges.
