Jonathan Diller, a 31-year-old New York City police officer, was tragically killed in the line of duty in Queens. During his three years on the force, he had made numerous arrests and received commendations for his excellent police work. He lived in Massapequa Park with his wife, Stephanie, and their young son, Ryan. Jonathan was proud of his family and his career, and his neighbors spoke highly of him as a dedicated family man and officer.

On the night of his death, Officer Diller and his partner were on patrol in Far Rockaway when they approached a car with two occupants parked illegally at a bus stop. When Jonathan ordered the passenger out of the car, the man pulled out a gun and fatally shot him. Despite being mortally wounded, Officer Diller was able to disarm the gunman before succumbing to his injuries. His partner returned fire, striking the suspect, who survived and was taken to the hospital. The suspect, Guy Rivera, had a history of prior arrests, including robbery and drug charges.

Following Jonathan’s death, his brother-in-law, also a police officer, expressed his grief and vowed to care for Ryan in his uncle’s absence. The community was devastated by the loss of Officer Diller, and a vigil was planned in his honor. His wake and funeral were set to take place in the coming days, with many friends, family members, and fellow officers paying their respects. Jonathan was described as a dedicated officer and a loving father and husband, with a strong sense of duty towards his community.

In the quiet neighborhood where Jonathan lived, his absence was keenly felt by neighbors who saw him as a respected member of their community. Many residents expressed their sorrow and offered their support to the Diller family during this difficult time. Blue bunting was hung along the street in solidarity with the fallen officer, demonstrating the close-knit nature of the neighborhood and their appreciation for law enforcement. Jonathan was remembered as a humble and reliable neighbor who was always willing to help others.

Before becoming a police officer, Jonathan graduated from the State University of New York Maritime College with a degree in marine transportation. He married Stephanie in 2019, and their son Ryan was born shortly after. Photos of Jonathan with his family, often featuring police vehicles and helicopters, showcased his dedication to his job and his role as a protector. His neighbors and friends remembered him as a hero in every sense of the word, a man who served his community with pride and dedication. Despite the tragic circumstances of his death, Jonathan’s legacy as a loving father and committed officer would live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
