Adrian Newey, the celebrated designer who played a crucial role in Red Bull’s success in Formula One, has announced that he will be stepping down early next year. With nearly two decades of service with the team, Newey will be leaving in the first quarter of 2025. During his time with Red Bull, he helped the team secure seven drivers’ titles and six constructors’ titles, including the recent successes of defending champion Max Verstappen.

In a statement, Newey expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to Red Bull’s growth and success over the years. He mentioned that he feels it is the right time to pass on the baton to others and seek new challenges for himself. Red Bull’s chief technical officer will be focusing on the development of the team’s first hypercar, the RB17, while stepping back from F1 design. Newey’s departure marks the end of an era for Red Bull Racing, as he played a key role in the team’s greatest achievements.

Christian Horner, Red Bull’s team principal, praised Newey for his contribution to the team’s success and referred to him as a true legend in the sport. Horner emphasized the impact that Newey had on the team’s technical innovation and performance over the past two decades. As Newey prepares to leave Red Bull, there is speculation that his departure could trigger a bidding war among other teams eager to secure his services. Newey’s availability for the 2026 season, which will see significant regulation changes, could give his next employers a competitive edge.

The news of Newey’s departure comes at a time of controversy for Red Bull, with Horner facing allegations of inappropriate behavior by a female employee. However, Horner was later cleared of any wrongdoing by Red Bull’s parent company, and he has consistently denied the claims. Despite the challenges faced by the team off the track, Red Bull remains focused on their upcoming projects and the future of their Formula One program. With Newey’s impending departure and the team’s commitment to innovation, Red Bull Racing is poised to navigate this transition period and continue their pursuit of success in the sport.

As one of the most respected and accomplished designers in Formula One, Adrian Newey’s departure from Red Bull Racing marks the end of an era for the team. His legacy of technical excellence and championship success has left a lasting impact on the sport, and his future endeavors will be closely watched by fans and insiders alike. With Newey’s departure opening up opportunities for other teams to secure his services, the Formula One landscape is likely to see significant changes in the coming seasons. Despite the challenges and controversies faced by Red Bull, the team remains committed to their goals and aspirations as they navigate this transition period.
