A member of the German right-wing party Alternative for Germany (AfD) was stabbed in the city of Mannheim, where an immigrant from Afghanistan had recently stabbed several people, including a police officer who later died. The AfD candidate was attacked near the market square while trying to stop someone from tearing down an election poster. The attacker was detained, and the candidate is recovering in the hospital. Markus Frohnmaier, a local AfD leader, expressed shock and dismay over the incident.

Malte Kaufmann, an AfD politician, identified the victim as Heinrich Koch, who he said was seriously injured with a carpet knife. The attacker was caught tearing down AfD posters by Koch. Kaufmann condemned the act of political violence and wished his colleague a speedy recovery. This attack comes shortly after an Afghan migrant stabbed Anti-Islam activist Michael Stürzenberger and others, including a police officer who later died. Police shot the migrant to stop the attack, and he is currently recovering from his injuries.

In another recent incident, Franziska Giffey, a former mayor and federal minister, was attacked at an event in a local library by a man who hit her with a bag containing a hard object. Additionally, a candidate from Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s party was beaten up while campaigning in Dresden for the upcoming European Parliament elections and had to undergo surgery. These acts of violence have raised concerns in Germany as citizens prepare to vote in the local and European Parliament elections this weekend.

The recent string of attacks comes at a tense time in Germany as citizens prepare to vote in the local and European Parliament elections. Europeans across 27 member states of the EU will participate in these elections. The attacks on AfD members and other politicians have heightened concerns about political violence in the country. Authorities are investigating the incidents and working to ensure the safety of candidates and voters during the electoral process.

The incidents in Mannheim, Dresden, and Berlin have raised concerns about the safety of political candidates in Germany. The stabbings and attacks on political figures have led to calls to end political violence and ensure the security of all individuals participating in the democratic process. The attacks have sparked debates about the rise of extremism and intolerance in Germany and the need to address these issues in the public sphere.

As Germany prepares for the upcoming elections, the focus is on ensuring the safety and security of candidates, voters, and political figures. The incidents in Mannheim and other cities have highlighted the need for increased security measures and vigilance to prevent further acts of violence. Authorities are working to investigate the attacks and hold those responsible accountable. The incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of protecting democratic values and ensuring the freedom of political expression in a peaceful and respectful manner.
