Quebec and Ontario experience power outages due to Spring storm

A significant spring storm has resulted in over 274,000 Hydro Quebec customers and 46,359 Hydro One customers being without power. The affected area stretches from near Gatineau to Montreal’s eastern suburbs. However, Hydro One’s restoration crews have been able to restore power to 125,000 customers since the storm began. As of 6:00 a.m., Hydro Ottawa is only reporting 63 customers affected by the power outage.

Environment Canada has issued snowfall warnings for much of the region, with up to 25 centimetres of snow expected. Special advisories are in place for areas from southwestern Ontario to New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, where heavy wet snowfall is anticipated. In Nova Scotia’s south, a wind warning has also been issued, with gusts expected to reach 90 kilometres per hour.

The storm has resulted in a large number of power outages as strong winds and heavy snowfall impact the region. Hydro Quebec is working to restore power to its affected customers, with Hydro One already having restored power to a significant number of customers as the storm continues. Hydro Ottawa has been minimally impacted by the storm, with only 63 customers currently experiencing power outages.

The snowfall warnings and special advisories issued by Environment Canada cover a vast region, including areas from southwestern Ontario to Nova Scotia. Residents in these areas are advised to take precautions and be prepared for heavy snowfall and strong winds. The wind warning in Nova Scotia’s south highlights the potential for gusts up to 90 kilometres per hour, adding to the dangerous conditions caused by the storm.

As the storm progresses, utility companies and emergency services are working to address the power outages and ensure the safety of residents in the affected areas.
