Putin supports Kamala Harris, claims Ukraine incursion did not hinder Russia’s progress

Russian President Vladimir Putin recently boasted about the success of his military’s advance in response to Ukraine’s attempt to seize Russian territory. He stated that it was the duty of the Russian army to protect its citizens and push the enemy out of the border region of Kursk. Putin also mentioned that Moscow’s main goal was capturing the Donbas region, where Russian troops have been making progress for months. He emphasized that despite Ukraine’s offensive, the Russian army had managed to stabilize the situation and advance in the Donbas region.

Putin’s comments came during an economic forum in Vladivostok, where he expressed confidence in his country’s military operation. He highlighted Ukraine’s efforts to make Russia “nervous and fidgety” through the Kursk offensive but stated that the enemy had ultimately failed. Putin claimed that the Russian army had started pushing Ukrainian forces out of border areas and was advancing significantly in the Donbas region. This development reflected a shift in momentum following Ukraine’s initial cross-border assault that surprised the Kremlin.

Russian President Putin appeared content with the events of the past month, where Ukraine managed to capture a significant portion of Russian territory. Despite this, Putin suggested that Ukraine’s manpower struggles would force them to recruit young people, drawing parallels to Nazi Germany’s youth force during World War Two. Putin labeled Ukrainian leaders as aliens or foreigners and reiterated baseless claims of them being Nazis. His rhetoric painted a picture of Ukraine as a country facing internal challenges and divided leadership.

Putin’s discussion also touched on the upcoming U.S. election, where he expressed support for Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee. This endorsement came amidst recent sanctions and criminal charges imposed by the Biden administration on Russian government-sponsored attempts to influence U.S. public opinion. Putin sarcastically mentioned that his favorite candidate was President Biden, who had supported Harris, leading Russia to back her as well. He praised Harris for her laughter and hinted at the possibility of improved relations with Russia under her leadership.

The Russian president’s remarks regarding the U.S. election are likely to be met with skepticism by the White House and the Harris campaign. Former President Donald Trump has been perceived as the Kremlin’s preferred candidate due to his friendly stance towards Putin. Trump’s promises regarding ending the war in Ukraine have raised concerns about his willingness to negotiate with Russia on their terms. Putin’s comments reflect a complex political landscape where international relations and strategic alliances play a crucial role in shaping geopolitical dynamics.
