Prince Harry may contest UK’s ruling to remove his police protection

Prince Harry has been granted permission to appeal against the rejection of his legal challenge to the British government’s decision to remove his police protection while in Britain. This decision was made by the Home Office in February 2020 and was upheld by the High Court in London in February of this year. However, the Court of Appeal has now agreed to hear Harry’s challenge following an application from his lawyers.

The issue arose after Harry, along with other senior royals, had been receiving full publicly-funded security protection. However, when he and his wife Meghan stepped back from their royal duties and moved to California, the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures decided to reduce his security. The decision was deemed lawful by the High Court in London earlier this year.

Despite the initial dismissal of his case, Judge David Bean has granted Prince Harry permission to appeal, stating that there is a real prospect of success in challenging the decision made by the RAVEC. The judge also ordered Harry to pay 90% of the Home Office’s costs for defending the case, although the total amount was not specified.

This legal battle is just one of several that Prince Harry has initiated in the High Court, with others involving disputes against major British press outlets. The appeal process will now allow Harry the opportunity to further contest the government’s decision to reduce his security, citing concerns that RAVEC did not follow their own stated policy in making the decision.

The outcome of this appeal could have significant implications for Prince Harry and his security arrangements while in Britain. The decision to reduce his protection raises questions about the level of security provided to senior royals who have stepped back from their official roles. The case also sheds light on the legal battles that Harry has been increasingly involved in against various entities.

As the legal process continues, Prince Harry will have the chance to present his arguments for why he believes his security protection should not have been reduced. The appeal will provide a platform for further examination of the decision-making process within RAVEC and whether their policies were properly followed in this particular instance. Ultimately, the outcome of this appeal will have ramifications for Harry’s security arrangements and could set a precedent for future cases involving senior royals and their protection.
