The countdown to the Paris Olympics has reached 100 days, with plans for the opening ceremony to be held on the Seine River, featuring a parade of 10,500 athletes through Paris. However, French President Emmanuel Macron has stated that the event could be moved to the Stade de France if security concerns arise. Despite this, organizers and officials are still working on the Seine ceremony with preparations in full swing. While acknowledging security risks, they are confident in the safety measures in place to ensure a successful event.

The Paris Olympics and Paralympics are expected to draw millions of visitors to France, leading to high security alert levels. Over 100 world leaders are expected to attend the opening ceremony, adding to the concerns surrounding the event. French Sports Minister Amélie Oudéa-Castéra emphasized that the primary focus is on the Seine ceremony but contingency plans are in place in case of any security threats. While acknowledging the complexities and risks of hosting such a large-scale event, officials are working diligently to ensure the safety of all participants and visitors.

Despite the challenges posed by heightened security threats globally, organizers remain committed to hosting the opening ceremony on the Seine as planned. The head of the Paris Games’ organizing committee, Tony Estanguet, affirmed their duty to make sure the event happens. Other officials, including the president of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee, David Lappartient, acknowledged the difficulties in organizing an event of this magnitude in a city like Paris. However, the government is exploring all options to ensure a successful and safe Olympic Games.

Former French handball star Michaël Guigou expressed confidence in the security measures in place for the opening ceremony, as well as in fan zones, Olympic venues, and the city of Paris itself. While security risks have become a part of daily life in France, Guigou believes that the necessary precautions are being taken. Athletes, such as breaker Dany Dann, are focused on their preparation for the games and have full trust in the organizers to adapt to any changing circumstances. Despite the uncertainties surrounding the opening ceremony, athletes and officials are committed to making the Paris Olympics a successful and memorable event.
