Paris Charles de Gaulle airport officials have introduced a new security baggage system and dedicated baggage handling area in preparation for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. The upgraded equipment includes a revamped scanner system that will allow for more detailed scans of passengers’ baggage, eliminating the need for travelers to remove items such as electronic devices, aerosols, or liquids from their bags. Edward Arkwright, CEO of Aéroports de Paris Group, emphasized the importance of maintaining strict security measures and ensuring that any questionable luggage is thoroughly inspected before being allowed to leave the airport.

As the first stop for athletes and delegations arriving for the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics, Charles de Gaulle Airport anticipates processing over 114,000 pieces of baggage from delegations and media representatives, as well as receiving an estimated 47,000 pieces of sports equipment. To accommodate the influx of oversized luggage, the airport has introduced a dedicated “baggage factory” spanning 10,000 square meters to process the equipment and luggage of athletic delegations departing after the closing ceremony. Sébastien Malaussene, the airport’s project manager, highlighted the challenge of handling oversized sports equipment brought by athletes, as it is often more complex than standard passenger baggage.

The introduction of the new security measures and dedicated baggage handling area is part of the airport’s efforts to enhance security and efficiency ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. The implementation of the revamped scanner system will help streamline the security screening process for passengers, allowing for more detailed scans without the need for passengers to remove specific items from their bags. The airport is prioritizing the security of passengers and their belongings, with a focus on ensuring that any suspicious or questionable luggage is thoroughly inspected before being cleared for departure.

Athletes traveling for the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics are expected to carry a significant amount of equipment and luggage, presenting a unique challenge for the airport in handling oversized and specialized sports equipment. The airport’s project manager highlighted the complexity of dealing with athletes who often travel with multiple oversized bags filled with sports gear, as opposed to the average passenger who may only have a few pieces of luggage. The dedicated “baggage factory” aims to streamline the processing of sports equipment and luggage for athletic delegations departing after the Games, ensuring a smooth and efficient departure process.

With a focus on enhancing security measures and accommodating the specialized sports equipment brought by athletes, the airport aims to provide a seamless and efficient experience for passengers. The airport’s CEO emphasized the importance of maintaining strict security protocols and thorough luggage inspections to ensure the safety and security of all travelers during this major international event.
