The Security Branch of the Provincial Police Department initiated an operation in the city to combat motorcycle thefts that have been occurring in front of buildings, businesses, and parking lots on various dates. After identifying 6 suspects from the City Security Management System (KGYS) footage, a operation named ‘Idle’ was carried out and the suspects were arrested at their addresses. It was determined that the suspects were stealing motorcycles by placing food orders and then stealing the delivery drivers’ motorcycles. One of the arrested suspects was a motorcycle mechanic who was found to be tampering with the serial numbers of the stolen motorcycles. The moments of theft and escape by the suspects were captured on camera.
The suspects have been referred to the court for further legal proceedings. On the other hand, the Motorcycle Police Teams have taken action by impounding 80 out of 2,383 motorcycles that were questioned in order to prevent crimes committed with motorcycles where the serial numbers were tampered with. Additionally, 593,310 TL in administrative fines were imposed on 470 motorcycle riders during the checks conducted.
