One year after the passing of musician Sinéad O’Connor in London, the exact cause of her death has been revealed. Her death certificate, registered by her ex-husband John Reynolds, listed the cause of death as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. O’Connor was also suffering from a respiratory tract infection at the time of her death, which contributed to her passing. The Southwark Coroner’s Court in London announced in January that O’Connor had died of natural causes and had ceased their involvement in the case. The Irish singer passed away on July 26, 2023, at the age of 56.

O’Connor was found “unresponsive” at an apartment in London and was pronounced dead at the scene by the police. In June 2022, she canceled all her music gigs to focus on her health after her son Shane died by suicide at the age of 17. O’Connor’s management team announced that she would not be performing live in 2022 due to the continuing grief over her son’s tragic loss. The singer paid tribute to Shane on Instagram, describing him as the light of her life who had decided to end his earthly struggle and was now with God. O’Connor expressed her hope that her son is at peace.

Throughout the years, O’Connor had experienced mental health struggles, including posting cryptic messages about overdosing in 2015. Despite reports of her going missing in 2016, she denied any suicide attempts and stated that she was too happy for such actions. O’Connor is survived by her three other children: Jake, Roisin, and Yeshua. Her passing was a source of great sadness for her family and friends, who requested privacy during that difficult time.

The death of Sinéad O’Connor brought an outpouring of support and condolences from her fans and friends. Her family issued a statement announcing her passing and expressed their devastation over the loss. The love and support shown to O’Connor and her family during that time provided comfort and peace. O’Connor’s management team thanked her fans and friends for their understanding and support during the grieving period. The singer’s death certificate revealed the underlying medical conditions that contributed to her passing.

The announcement of Sinéad O’Connor’s cause of death shed light on the health issues she was facing at the time of her passing. The singer’s struggle with COPD, asthma, and a respiratory tract infection highlighted the challenges she had been dealing with. The circumstances surrounding O’Connor’s passing, including her decision to focus on her health after her son’s death, provided insight into the difficulties she was experiencing. Despite her struggles, O’Connor’s legacy as a musician and performer continues to live on through her songs and influence in the music industry. The announcement of her cause of death brought closure to her fans and followers, allowing them to remember her with fondness and appreciation.
