State regulators in Ohio have issued a total of $212,000 in fines to five marijuana businesses for violating advertising rules. Most of the fines were related to promotions leading up to the beginning of recreational marijuana sales in August. Greenleaf Apothecaries, which operates dispensaries in multiple cities, received the largest proposed fine of $150,000 for violations such as giving out food and beverages from an ice cream truck, advertising “Free Ice Cream” on social media, and using an unapproved sign.

The Division of Cannabis Control in Ohio prohibits marijuana businesses from handing out food and drinks from ice cream trucks or using certain promotional tactics, such as online advertisements with phrases like “Can you take me higher?” Other violations cited included the use of signs that were too large or not approved by the state. Greenleaf Apothecaries stated that it takes the rules seriously and hopes to work with the state to resolve the issues.

These fines highlight the strict regulations surrounding marijuana advertising in Ohio, particularly as the state prepares for the start of recreational marijuana sales. State regulators are cracking down on businesses that do not follow the guidelines for advertising, which are designed to ensure responsible marketing practices within the industry. Violations of these rules can result in substantial fines, as demonstrated by the fines issued to the five marijuana businesses.

The proposed fines come at a crucial time for the marijuana industry in Ohio, as recreational sales began in August and businesses are eager to attract customers. However, businesses must navigate a complex set of rules and regulations governing advertising practices in order to avoid penalties. Greenleaf Apothecaries and other businesses in the state are working to comply with these regulations while still promoting their products effectively to consumers.

In response to the fines, Greenleaf Apothecaries emphasized their commitment to following the rules and working with state regulators to resolve any compliance issues. By taking the violations seriously and cooperating with authorities, the company hopes to come to a favorable resolution and continue operating within the boundaries of the law. As the marijuana industry in Ohio continues to grow, businesses must remain vigilant in their compliance efforts to avoid further penalties for advertising violations.

Overall, the proposed fines against five marijuana businesses in Ohio underscore the importance of adhering to strict advertising regulations in the state’s burgeoning cannabis industry. As recreational sales begin and businesses seek to attract customers, it is imperative that they follow the guidelines set forth by the Division of Cannabis Control to avoid fines and other consequences. By taking compliance seriously and working with regulators, companies like Greenleaf Apothecaries can navigate the complexities of advertising rules and maintain a positive reputation within the industry.
