Hill, who was given two citations for careless driving and for a seatbelt violation, spoke about the incident post-game, expressing both his respect for law enforcement and bewilderment about the treatment he received.
The incident was witnessed and filmed by fans on their way to the game, quickly becoming a point of discussion on social media platforms. Hill, in a press conference after the game, expressed his views on the matter. He stated that he was uninformed as to why he had been handcuffed after simply being stopped for speeding. Hill, who plans to become a police officer after retiring from football, added that he had done nothing disrespectful during the encounter. His teammate, Calais Campbell, backed up Hill’s statement, mentioning that he too had been briefly handcuffed as he tried to aid Hill.

In celebration of this achievement, Hill imitated being handcuffed. He later questioned the role of his celebrity status and race in the incident, wondering what treatment he would’ve received had he not been a well-known NFL player.
The director of Miami-Dade Police, Stephanie V. Daniels, stated that she had requested an immediate review of the situation, including assessing any available body camera footage from the police officers involved. Daniels emphasized her commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability within her department regarding any incident involving its officers. Meanwhile, the internal investigation of the incident remains ongoing.
Hill revealed that the incident had taken him by surprise but was glad to have his teammates’ support in such a situation. He also noted that he and his legal team were contemplating taking legal action. Another Dolphins playmaker, Calais Campbell, recounted his experience in detail, revealing how he ended up in handcuffs while seeking to intervene and de-escalate the situation.
The fallout from the incident continues even as Hill tries to process the traumatic event. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, referred to the situation as “heartbreaking” and noted his plans to launch an investigation. Commenting on the incident, he said, “How things escalated into the situation that they were in, in handcuffs, and being held on the ground with police, is mind-boggling to me.” The NFL stated that it has been in contact with the Dolphins regarding Sunday’s incident, but has so far declined to comment further.
